Public sector:
The National Health Insurance is a financing system that will make sure that all citizens of South Africa are provided with essential healthcare, regardless of their employment status and ability to make a direct monetary contribution to the NHI Fund. With the growing infection rate of chronic illness e.g HIV/AIDS in the past years has set the government to introduce a program called CCMDD.
CCMDD
CCMDD is the Centralised Chronic Medicines Dispensing and Distribution program aimed at the distribution of free chronic medication through a contracted company. The medication is packaged and transported to pick up points close to the patient’s area of residency for collection. The CCMDD has shown a lot of challenges since its establishment:
